When a child loses a parent or sibling, their world can feel very different. We create personalised memory boxes and bears to help children and young adults hold onto the memories, moments and connection they share with the person they have lost.
By bringing precious keepsakes and memories together in something they can see, touch and treasure, we hope to offer comfort and reassurance as they find their own way through grief.

The heart of the mission

“When we lost Harvey, we realised there were too few options to help a child hold onto the precious belongings they shared with a sibling or parent they miss. Cardboard boxes tear and fade and are often shared by families.

We believe every child deserves a sanctuary for their treasures — a place worthy of the memories it holds, and a place that says, ‘This person is loved and missed.’

Our family founded the Harvey Hext Trust to help grieving children hold onto those precious memories, and to provide comfort, connection and reassurance as they navigate a new life without the person they love.”

How we help

Every child experiences grief differently.
Some may want to talk about the person they have lost, while others may express their feelings through play, creativity, behaviour or simply in quiet moments. We provide gentle, meaningful support to help children and families; offering comfort, reassurance and connection when they need it most.

George (12) lost his brother Zac (22) to cancer in November 2025. He is devastated as we all are. Zac was his hero and George is struggling to accept that he is gone. He was so delighted to receive the memory box. His face lit up when he opened it. Not only is the box beautiful with lots of photos of them together over the years it also gives him a special place to put any mementos of his brother. George will treasure this box for the rest of his life. He also loved the teddy and has spent many hours cuddling it. He has named it Zac of course.

Our patient was dad to two children, who received memory boxes through the Harvey Hext Trust. When he died at the hospice, we offered our emotional support and bereavement counselling to the children as we usually would. The impact of having the boxes, having taken part in the process of designing the boxes, having conversations as a family and opening up the opportunity to talk together, meant that they were better able to support each other through his death and when living with their grief. It meant that they didn’t need to have formal bereavement support from the hospice. The impact of having the memory boxes was clear to see. We’re delighted to have the option to work with the Harvey Hext Trust, particularly with our younger families.

Caden’s memory box and bear arrived today. I just wanted to say thank you so much, it is honestly perfect and we have already added a few items into the box. He spent some time looking at the pictures around the box saying “daddy”. It really is amazing what you are doing for families like ourselves going through the worst heartbreak you could ever imagine so thank you.
